Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 5:27-32.
Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post. He said to him, «Follow me.»
And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him.
Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were at table with them.
The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?"
Jesus said to them in reply, "Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do.
I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners."
Reflections: Standing up as a sinner
Today's Gospel reminds us that everyone of us is a sinner. Everyone of us experience to fall from the temptation of the evil. And we must also remember that this is the reason why God brought us His son to us. Jesus came upon this world not just to testify the truth but also to heal our broken lives. Yes, our lives were broken because of sin. Our lives were broken because of the pain that this world brings. My dear brothers and sisters today as we are in the lenten season, we are encourage to acknowledge that we are sinners and we need a doctor, and that is Jesus. But acknowledging our sins is never enough to enter God's Kingdom. We must be like the tax collector, Levi, who stands from the table of sin, invite Jesus in his home and followed Him. The lent may bring us to the new us, a holy one indeed! And may the suffering of Jesus be meaningful for us, because remember, he came to release our hearts from sin. Amen.
